Graham Scott will referee our re-arranged home game tonight against Tottenham Hotspur having previously refereed the 0-0 draw against West Ham United in what proved to be our final home game of 2021.

He didn’t have a good game that afternoon but that was no surprise for a referee who has turned in a catalogue of poor performances in Burnley games over the years going back to the first half of the last decade in some of our Football League games, those at Coventry, Ipswich and Bournemouth standing out.

Scott is the second oldest Premier League referee at 53 and he’s been in the league since 2014 when his first match in the top flight came at the Turf in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. He was promoted to the select group at the end of that season.

This season, he’s refereed eight Premier League games, less than any of the other established select group officials. He can add to that a further seven games in the Football League and the two cups and in those 15 games there have been 52 yellow and three red cards.

Of those yellows, 28 have gone to home team players and 24 to away team players. On VAR instructions, he sent off Granit Xhaka last season in our 1-0 win at Arsenal. Six days later he dismissed Fulham’s Joachim Andersen in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle. They were his most recent Premier League red cards. The three this season all came in one game, in fact in the closing minutes of one game between Colchester and Bristol Rovers.

His most recent game was a week last Saturday when he took charge of the Premier League game between Everton and Leeds. Everton won 3-0 with both sides receiving one yellow card, Alex Iwobi for Everton and Dan James for Leeds.

Jon Moss is fourth official tonight. He most recently refereed us at Manchester United at the end of December. He’s almost become our resident VAR man and Stuart Attwell will again be on duty at Stockley Park. It’s now over three years since he last refereed us; that was the 3-1 win at Brighton in February 2019.
