Gray day in big Sunderland win
The votes are in and the ratings have been posted, and it will come as no surprise that hat trick hero Andre Gray has won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings from our 4-1 home win against Sunderland that brought 2016 to an end.
Gray polled 58% of the vote with his strike partner Ashley Barnes taking second place with a 23% share. Returning midfielder Steven Defour had just 6% of the vote but that won him third place with George Boyd coming fourth with 5% of the vote.
In the ratings, it was the same top three and in the same order. Again Gray was an easy winner with a rating of 9.20 out of 10 ahead of Barnes with 8.64 and Defour with 8.07. Fourth place went to Stephen Ward who had a rating of 8.05 out of 10.
The result gives Gray ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with six points for Barnes, four points for Defour and one point each for Boyd and Ward. That doesn’t affect the top of the table but Defour has now gone joint fourth with Dean Marney, one point ahead of Barnes.
The last game of December also brings the player of the month result and Mee, who has had some outstanding games, was the convincing winner with Barnes finishing in second place.
