Latest England recruit Michael Keane and Iceland midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson were voted our best two players in the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Gudmundsson won a man of the match vote for the first time in what was just his third league start for the Clarets following his summer move from Charlton and he’ll soon be winning himself a regular place in the side if he continues with that level of performance.

It won him 36% of the vote ahead of second place Dean Marney and third place Keane who both had a 22% share, with Marney securing two more votes than Keane. George Boyd and Ben Mee shared fourth place with 5% of the vote each.

Four of those five made the top four places in the player ratings. Keane was the winner this time with a rating of 8.47 out of 10 and that was just above the 8.44 won by Gudmundsson. Marney was third with a rating of 8.13 and Mee, with 7.89 out of 10, took fourth place.

Gudmundsson, with his first and second places, has won eight points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year, they being his first points. Keane, who leads the way this season, won seven points with five for Marney, two for Mee and one for Boyd.

Keane has now opened up an eleven point gap at the top of the table, ahead of his defensive partner Mee, while Marney has moved level with Steven Defour in third place, just two points behind Mee.

The next vote will start a week on Sunday for the Southampton game.
