Harker brace in under-23s win
Burnley have beaten Sheffield United 3-0 this afternoon in the Professional Development League with two headed goals from Rob Harker, one in each half, and a stunning goal from midfielder Adam Phillips, his first goal since joining the Clarets from Norwich City in the summer.
It means the unbeaten run continues with this third win alongside five draws and today’s was the biggest win in this league since we won by the same score against Colchester back in April when, coincidentally, Harker (pictured) bagged two goals alongside one from Ben Woods.
It took us only five minutes to get in front when Harker headed home an Anthony Glennon cross for his first goal of the season and just over ten minutes later the lead was doubled by Phillips with a stunning goal from over 30-yards.
The win was probably not as comfortable as the scoreline might suggest. We had chances to add further goals but Sheffield United were guilty of missing chances of their own, but we wrapped things up midway through the second half. Ali Koiki was close to getting on the scoresheet again but saw the home goalkeeper Michael Verrips keep him out with an excellent save but unable to do anything when Harker headed home Glennon’s resulting corner.
Lukas Jensen made a couple of good saves but the third goal had killed the Blades and we played out time comfortably.
