Healy-Byrne joins Clarets from Cork
Burnley have completed the signing of right-back Alex Healy-Byrne from League of Ireland club Cork City.
He’s signed a two-year deal at Burnley with an option for a third year and at eighteen is looking forward to moving to join the Clarets.
He said: I’m delighted to be at a club as big as Burnley with a clear pathway for younger players. It’s something I’m really excited to be a part of and having met the staff and see all the facilities, I know this is the right move for me in progressing my career.
“I owe a lot to Cork for how much they’ve helped me over the last few years, but with the deal done, I can’t wait to get going as a Burnley play now.”
Prior to his move to Burnley, he made his first team debut for Cork back in March this year in the Munster Senior Cup and he’s already represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.
Cork’s Head of Academy, Liam Kearney, commented: “Alex epitomises everything we like to see in our academy players in terms of work-rate, attitude and determination. He has worked very hard and now finds himself with a great opportunity, which we all hope goes well for him. We would like to wish him every success for the future.”
