Jeff Hendrick got his first Burnley start last Saturday in our 3-0 defeat at Leicester. He impressed the watching Burnley fans who voted him our best player via the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

Record signing Hendrick lined up in the midfield and turned in an assured performance and for the three days plus of voting he was neck and neck with central defender Ben Mee, just edging ahead of him at the eleventh hour to take the man of the match vote with 24%, with Mee securing 22%.

Mee’s central defensive partner Michael Keane was third with a 12% share and goalkeeper Tom Heaton took fourth place with 11% of the vote.

Those four players also took the top four places in the player ratings. It would have been interesting to see what the ratings would have been at half time after the Clarets had played well enough up to giving that stoppage time goal away. I’m sure they would have been considerably higher than they were at the end after the disappointing second half.

No player reached seven out of ten and Hendrick was again the winner; his rating was just 6.31 out of 10. The only other player to reach the average mark of six was Heaton whose rating was 6.27, giving him second place, while the central defensive pairing of Keane and Mee couldn’t be separated with both having a rating of 5.77 out of 10 to give them joint third place.

The points awarded towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year are 10 for Hendrick, five for Mee and four each for Heaton and Keane.

Those points have left the two defenders in the top two places in the table; they are the only two players to have passed twenty points although Heaton, Dean Marney, Steven Defour and Hendrick are now all in double figures.

The next vote will be for next Monday’s game against Watford and will run from around an hour after the final whistle until the end of Thursday.

The Leicester result is below, followed by the current player of the year table.
