With the voting and player ratings completed after our 3-2 win against Crystal Palace last Saturday, three players have come out of it with most of the points.

Central defender Ben Mee, alongside midfielders Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Steven Defour, were those top three while a third midfielder Dean Marney came in fourth in both the vote and the ratings.

The man of the match vote wasn’t close at all. Gudmundsson (pictured), who played a big part in two of the goals while scoring the other, won it easily with 59% of the vote. He got the cross in from the left for Matt Lowton’s shot which led to the first goal. He then scored the second with a left foot shot that Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda couldn’t hold and then set up the winner for Ashley Barnes with a delightful cross from the right.

The next three places in the vote were very close. Defour, on his return from injury, was second with 13% but he was closely followed by third place Mee with 12% and Marney who won 11% of the vote to take fourth place.

Gudmundsson, however, had to settle for third place in the ratings which were jointly won by Defour and Mee who both had ratings of 8.23 out of 10, just ahead of the Icelandic international who came in with 8.19. Marney was again fourth; his rating was 7.74 out of 10.

That result gave Defour eight points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with both Gudmundsson and Mee winning seven points. Marney, for his two fourth places, collected two points.

That’s left it very tight at the top. Mee’s points have taken him above Tom Heaton into second place and now just one point behind the leader, his central defensive partner Michael Keane. Defour has now moved clear into fourth place with Marney fifth and Gudmundsson moving into sixth place.
