Just over a week ago, Sheffield Wednesday beat Sheffield United to go three points clear of them in the Professional Development League; one week later and that gap has extended to six points with United now having dropped three places to fifth in the table.

1718 burnley arlen birch 00 500x500Wednesday beat Huddersfield on Monday and that result ensured we stayed off the bottom. We were behind Huddersfield on goal difference ahead of the last fixtures but moved a point above them with our 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

That game at Birmingham was played last Friday with Barnsley winning the other north group game that day, beating Crewe, a result that has seen them move into fourth place. But as Wednesday won on Monday, Sheffield United suffered a home defeat against Hull who have now moved into second place in the table some four points behind the leaders.

There was a big shock for south group leaders QPR. They were expected to extend their lead at the top of the table with a home game against Colchester. They even went ahead but ended with a big defeat against the League Two club’s under-23 team.

With Coventry’s game postponed and Ipswich failing to win, QPR have retained their three point lead at the top.

Fixtures in this league are usually played between Friday and Monday, but that’s not the case in the next week. We kick it all off tomorrow night with a home game against Barnsley with Crewe and Birmingham bringing the week’s fixtures to an end next Wednesday. There’s also a second home game for Burnley this week; we play Bolton next Monday and both games are at Curzon Ashton with 7 p.m. kick offs.
