Improving Coote has the Anfield whistle
David Coote, who will be in charge of our game tomorrow at Liverpool, didn’t get off to the best starts when refereeing Burnley with some poor performances in Championship games, none more so than his handling of our home game against Birmingham City in August 2015.
When he joined the Select Group in the summer of 2018, his RATE THE REF rating was so low he was immediately placed in the bottom position. However, there has been a steady climb for him with his three Burnley games in the Premier League, last season at Fulham and at home against West Ham, followed by this season’s home game against Norwich. It’s lifted his rating to 64 out of 100 and a place in the top ten.
Tomorrow will be his fourth game since the restart. He has followed up that game at Newcastle with the Everton v Leicester and Crystal Palace v Chelsea fixtures. That last game at Crystal Palace saw Palace’s Luka Milivojevic receive the only yellow card.
Martin Atkinson is the fourth official. He’s refereed us just the once this season at Bournemouth while Chris Kavanagh will be the VAR man and he’s refereed our home games this season against Liverpool and Arsenal.
