The Republic of Ireland were beaten 3-1 on a night when Daryl Horgan and Callum O’Dowda both won their first starts with Long and Preston’s Alan Browne getting debuts from the bench.

Long replaced Brentford’s John Egan with 64 minutes of the game gone. The score was 3-0 at the time but Stephen Gleeson pulled one back 13 minutes later to complete the scoring.

The Ireland team was: Darren Randolph, Cyrus Christie (Alan Browne 73), Richard Keogh, Shane Duffy, John Egan (Kevin Long 64), James McClean, Daryl Horgan (Stephen Gleeson 73), Conor Hourihane (Eunan O’Kane 64), Callum O’Dowda, Daryl Murphy (Wes Hoolahan 64), David McGoldrick.
