1718 burnley nick pope 00 500x500One tabloid newspaper this morning is suggesting that Burnley are set to offer goalkeeper Nick Pope a new contract and that Tom Heaton could leave in the summer.

The news comes from Alan Nixon who claims that Pope, who signed a new contract as recently as five months ago, is on just £15,000 per week and could be set to see his pay doubled after impressing this season.

And should it be difficult for us to keep two goalkeepers of this quality, Nixon believes Heaton, as the higher paid of the two, may move on in the summer should Burnley find it difficult to keep two goalkeepers of their quality.

Pope is currently under contract until the end of the 2019/20 season with the club having the option of a further year. When he signed that deal in October, he said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract and extend my stay here. I’ve been really happy since I signed last year, so I’m really pleased to get it done.” Heaton, meanwhile, is also under contract for another two seasons beyond the current season.

The selections of Pope and James Tarkowski for England both ridiculously came under some criticism this morning on Sunday Supplement, particularly from journalist Matt Dunn. We are still not fashionable enough for some of the media.
