With the first team and the under-23s having both won their first games, the under-18s followed suit this afternoon with a convincing 3-0 win against Bournemouth at St. George’s Park.

1819 burnley jayden major 00 500x500We kicked off the first half with seven second year scholars, two first years and two trialists, and it was one of the second years, Jayden Major (pictured) who turned the game our way with goals on 27 and 39 minutes to give us a 2-0 half time lead.

Tony Philliskirk changed things round in the second half with eleven changes. Lewis Thomas, recently recruited from Manchester City, came on in goal and in front of him were five first year scholars, four under-16s and a trialist.

That suggested a much closer second half but just before the hour we increased the lead with new scholar Jake Rooney scoring our third.

Bournemouth won a penalty with twenty minutes remaining but Thomas was equal to it, making a save from the spot kick in his first ever game for the Clarets and we ran out 3-0 winners.

The team now has friendlies at home against Everton and Liverpool before heading to Prague to take part in the CEE Cup.
