For a fifth successive season, Jürgen Klopp saw his Liverpool team win all three points at Turf Moor and he was delighted with the result and their performance in difficult conditions.

“I am absolutely delighted with the way we played the circumstances, it was so tricky,” he said. Only if you stood on the pitch I think you could really feel the wind to the whole extent, because when we were in front of the stand, it didn’t feel that bad but on the pitch it was ridiculous because it came from all directions. But the boys deal with it.

“Obviously over the years my teams learned to deal with the circumstances and that is not speaking too much about it before the game. We ask ourselves to use it instead of suffering from it, that’s what happens when you are longer here.

“So, really, a difficult game. Yes, they had their moments but from a specific moment on Actually I think it felt like they had more moments than they actually had because of the late offside flag. There was already a lot of situations where we defended them really well, the flag came late and Ali (goalkeeper Alisson) made a save that he didn’t even put the flag up anymore, so that’s like real crazy.

Today, complete adults’ football was needed and that’s what the boys delivered. I am really happy about that.”

Sean Dyche was happy too, not with the result but with the Burnley performance. “From our point of view, it’s a good performance against a good Liverpool side,” he said. “I thought that we took the game to them and in the first half we created some amazing chances against the quality of this opposition with some very good play.

“Building on the last three games, we’ve had a real firm mentality towards it and working in front of the right crowd, they get behind us, and it’s head scratching today because I thought we deserved more than we got from the game.

“That’s the challenge of the season and it’s the story of our season. We’ve had some really good chances, in the first half particularly, and not taken them. Wout has done great for us, he looks like he will turn into a really good player for us, and Jay has a golden chance as well.”

He continued: “We looked a threat and I think we conceded a soft goal. We didn’t react as quick as they did, but we came out in the second half with the right mentality. There is a belief in what we do, we were really good today, and we have to keep doing that on the back of a good run of form and points, because that’s really important.

“I thought we were excellent and created by far the better chances against a top class side, and the energy was fantastic with three games in a week. The mentality is strong, our two midfielders were excellent today. Wout has made an obvious impact so there’s a lot of good signs, and the message is we have to make sure that we add in those moments when we have fantastic chances.”
