It’s up to players to lay down markers
Sean Dyche saw his side earn a 1-1 draw at Morecambe last night and was pleased with another good day’s work from his players as preparations continue for the Premier League season.
“It’s a fantastic workout and we’re pleased in this heat,” he said. “Jim’s side are a good side, I like Jim and he always gets his teams prepared, particularly physically. We knew it would be a hard game and they’ve come here just for the game whereas we did a morning session and continued into it.
“We’re really pleased as it was very hot in the morning and they worked hard in the session, it wasn’t a warm-up. That was always the plan to bring them here in a second session scenario if you like which was the two 45 minutes and to really play hard.
“We’ve got make sure everyone is fit and injury-free. We do the base work at the training ground but in terms of games it’s a different kind of fitness.
“It’s well talked about our energy levels and how the team is fit and we always believe in that. It’s important the body adapts to the heat and who knows what the weather is going to be like when the season starts. You have to be ready so I don’t think it does any harm to play in those sort of conditions. In fact the theory is it does you good.
“People can sometimes get carried away in pre-season good or bad, but that first games is what we’re aiming at to make sure everyone is fully fit, full of energy and ready to go. There are good signs from different players and pre-season is important for that as well. Players come in open-minded.
“Obviously last season the team moulded early season and in the second half there were a few changes so it’s up to players to lay down markers.”Share this page :
