Jay Rod wins goal of the season
It is over six months ago now although the magical moment still seems as if it is just happening, when Jay Rodriguez hammered home our second goal at Old Trafford to clinch a 2-0 win against Manchester United, only our second Premier League win against them and our first victory there since 1962.
It’s the second time in three seasons that the winning goal has come from that fixture. In 2017/18 it was Steven Defour’s free kick, his third and final goal for us, and at the same Stretford End as Jay’s wonderful strike back in January.
It won a staggering 64% of the vote and there was never really a challenger although there has to be special mention of the winning goal in the next away game. That was the superb finish from Matěj Vydra at Southampton which claimed 27% of the vote.
Jay has been added to the Up the Clarets Honours Board to add to that Defour goal and two from Jeff Hendrick, at Everton and Chelsea, as our goals of the season.
