Joey Barton was the clear winner of the man of the match vote and the player ratings following our win against Leicester last week and he’s repeated that in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Watford.

With the Clarets down to ten men in only the sixth minute of the game, Barton was certainly a huge influence in the midfield, none more so than in the first half when we were struggling to get any sort of foothold in the game.

He got in our only shot of note in that first half, seeing his free kick saved by Heurelho Gomes and it was his shot that was handled by Sebastian Prödl that won us the penalty in the second half.

His performance won him 40% of the man of the match vote with striker Ashley Barnes taking second place with a 24% share. Michael Keane, with 11%, and Tom Heaton, who won 8% of the vote, took third and fourth places.

Barton made it a double with his player rating of 8.27 out of 10. New signing Robbie Brady, who came on ten minutes into the second half for his debut, impressed enough to come second with a rating of 7.38.

Matt Lowton was third with a rating of 7.27 while both Barnes and Ben Mee had ratings of 7.19 out of 10 to share fourth place.

It’s another ten points for Joey towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Barnes collected four points while there were three points for Brady, two for both Keane and Lowton and a point each for Heaton and Mee.

It’s still close at the top of the table between Mee and Keane with the lead now down to eight points and further down the table, Barton has already reached eighth place after these two latest games have taken his total to 27.

The next vote will be underway on Sunday after the Chelsea game around an hour after the final whistle.
