Kavanagh back quickly to referee Clarets again
Chris Kavanagh refereed our recent 2-2 draw at Leicester City and he’s back with us tomorrow, taking charge of our game at Southampton.
The game at Leicester was his first Premier League game of the season and only his second game in total having taken charge of the Huddersfield v Nottingham Forest game a week earlier. I don’t think he had the best of games at the King Power; the yellow card for Maxwel Cornet was a total nonsense and only came about because he allowed Kasper Schmeichel to take over proceedings, and then he, and his inept assistant, missed the foul on Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson that led to Leicester’s second equaliser.
He’s refereed just one more Premier League game and one Championship game since Leicester and in his four games this season there have been sixteen yellow cards with seven going to home team players and nine to away team players.
His most recent game was Luton’s 2-0 win at Millwall in the Championship. Millwall’s Jake Cooper was yellow carded alongside the three Luton players James Bree, Kal Naismith and Jordan Clark.
For the second game running, Michael Salisbury, who hasn’t refereed a Burnley game, will be fourth official while VAR duties are in the hands of David Coote; he refereed our opening day game against Brighton.
