Kavanagh to referee us for second time this season
Chris Kavanagh will referee today’s home game against Wolves; it’s his second Burnley game this season having previously refereed our home draw against Huddersfield back in October.
He’s right up there with the better officials in the league in our RATE THE REF where he currently sits fourth with a rating of 74.17 out of 100.
In total, this season, he’s refereed 25 games, with 17 of those in the Premier League. He’s handed out a total of 85 yellow cards in those games along with just two red cards. Of those yellow cards, 41 have gone to home team players and 44 to away team players. The only red card in his Premier League games was shown to Leicester’s James Maddison in their 1-1 draw at Brighton in November.
Kavanagh’s most recent game saw the second of those red cards. It came in the FA Cup match between Millwall and Brighton at The Den. He rightly sent off Millwall’s Shane Ferguson close to the end of extra time. In a controversial game, the only yellow cards went the way of Brighton pair Martín Montoya and Bernardo.
The assistant referees today are Daniel Cook and Mick McDonough. The fourth official is Jon Moss who has refereed all of our three league games this season against the two Manchester clubs.
