keane meeThe voting is over to select the two central defenders to play in the best Burnley team of the last ten years and it is a pairing of Michael Keane and Ben Mee who will play in front of goalkeeper Tom Heaton and between the two full backs Kieran Trippier and Stephen Ward.

Mee was the clear winner. A total of 1,103 of the voters, 81% of them, saw him come out the clear winner and he was followed by Michael Keane who won 711 votes. They were some way ahead of the next pair of James Tarkowski and Michael Duff who received votes from 366 and 266 respectively.

After the top four, there is a bit of a drop with Jason Shackell voted the best of the rest with 44 votes, just 3% of the voters. The regulars from the start of the era, Steven Caldwell and Clarke Carlisle were next with 27 and 25 votes respectively while Leon Cort was the only other player to reach double figures. It was a surprise to see him receive as many as 11 votes.

To complete the voting, both Andre Bikey and Kevin Long received six votes with David Edgar, who has just been released by Hartlepool after returning to England, coming in last place with four votes.

That’s the defence, and later today the voting will start to select two central midfielders for the team.
