Keep out of the way Madley
Burnley’s home game tonight will be refereed by Bobby Madley who inadvertently got in the way of Ashley Westwood close to the end of our home game against Southampton which led to the visitors scoring an equalising goal.
He’s very much a Premier League referee now and only five of his 27 games this season have been in the three divisions of the Football League.
In those 27 games there have been 96 yellow and five red cards. Four of those yellows came in the Community Shield game at Wembley between Arsenal, of the others, 45 have gone to home team players and 47 to away team players. He hasn’t sent off a player in a Premier League since Kyle Walker and Morgan Schneiderlin were both dismissed in Manchester’s 1-1 home draw against Everton back in August.
Madley’s last game was the League Two game between Grimsby and Chesterfield twelve days ago. There were six yellow cards in that game, four for Grimsby and two for Chesterfield.
If he referees tonight as he did in the Southampton game, we should be OK. That is as long as he doesn’t get in anyone’s way.
The assistant referees are Marc Perry (West Midlands) and Adrian Holmes (West Yorkshire). The fourth official is Anthony Taylor (Wythenshawe) whose last Burnley game was last season’s home game against Manchester United.
