Koleosho signs in
Burnley have completed the signing of 18-year-old winger Luca Koleosho from Espanyol on a four-year deal for a fee reported to be in the region of €3 million.
Born in the United States of America, in Connecticut, Koleosho played for his local club Trunbull United as a child before moving on to Manhattan Kickers. It was through playing for Kickers on two trips to Spain that prompted his own move to the country, initially joining the Reus academy before signing for RCD Espanyol three years ago.
He progressed through the junior teams there and signed his first professional deal in June 2021. A year later, he was in the under-19 team that won the Copa del Rey Juvenil Cup, beating Real Madrid.
Last season he stepped into their B team, making his debut in October 2021 and by the end of that season he’d debuted in the first team in a 0-0 daw against Granada. Last season he made four more La Liga appearances and scored his first goal at that level in the final game of the season against Almeria. Coming on as a substitute during the second half, he scored their final goal in a 3-3 draw.
Internationally, he’s already played for the USA under-15 team and for Italy at under-19 level but he can also play for Nigeria (father) and Canada (his mother is an Italian/Canadian). He’s had a call up to the Canadian squad only for the games to be cancelled but that was prior to his games for the Italian under-19s which included the recent UEFA Under-19 Championship.
But at club level he’s now a Burnley player having signed a four-year deal and we wish him the very best.
