Langford in charge of cup tie
Our League Cup tie against Newcastle United tonight will be refereed by Oliver Langford in what will be his first Burnley game since the 2-1 home win against Huddersfield Town in October 2015.
That was his sixth Burnley game and, overall, there were some real concerns regarding his performances, none more so than his first Burnley game, a 1-0 defeat at Doncaster in 2011.
Langford refereed Barrow’s 1-0 win against Scunthorpe in this season’s League Cup 1st round. There were no cards in that game but in four Championship games he’s shown 14 yellow cards, four of them to home team players and ten to away team players.
His most recent game was Stoke’s 1-0 home win against Nottingham Forest last Saturday. Stoke had both Harry Souttar and Sam Clucas yellow carded alongside Forest pair Brice Samba and Tobias Figueiredo.
Fourth official tonight is Leigh Doughty who hasn’t refereed a Burnley game and VAR will not be in operation.
