Just over a week ago our home game against Barnsley was postponed; two days ago we had no fixture and that has now seen our under-18s drop into the bottom half of the U18 Professional Development League.

All eyes were on Wigan on Saturday. Sat at the top of the league, they went into their home game against second place Nottingham Forest with a one point advantage although Forest had a game in hand. Wigan didn’t just beat them, they claimed a 4-1 victory and they now have a four point lead at the top although they have played more games than those closest to them.

Wednesday kicked off with a one point lead over their rivals but it was United who came out on top and they have now moved into second place in the table.

Barnsley and Hull both moved ahead of us. Barnsley beat Leeds, who are having a difficult start to the season, and Hull recorded a big 3-0 win at Birmingham. They are both, like Wednesday, two points clear of us but we’ve games in hand on all three.

There is no result from the Crewe v Bolton game to end the northern group round up, but Bolton, who we play this Saturday, remain bottom of the table, a point behind Leeds.

Watford’s lead in the south has been reduced to one point after they were surprisingly held by Colchester. It’s enabled Charlton, winners at Cardiff to move closer to them in second place. Watford’s draw was 3-3 and there were two other games with at least as many goals. Bristol City beat bottom of the league QPR 6-0 and at Millwall, the home team were 4-3 winners against Coventry.

We’ll be looking forward to playing this Saturday and with Barnsley at Hull it gives us a chance of moving back up the table should we get a fourth win of the season.

The player featured this week is defender Matty Carson who is a first year scholar.
