Just two days ago we reported that Chris Long was set to return from his loan at Fleetwood Town, potentially to go out again with such as Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City and Wigan Athletic all showing interest.

Long’s departure from Fleetwood has now been confirmed by their manager Uwe Rösler in an interview with the Blackpool Gazette.

Rösler told them: “When Chris came in the first six, seven weeks, he was fantastic; then he got injured, then he got suspended and the other strikers made big strides in that period. That is sometimes how things can turn out when you are suspended for three or four games and the team is winning three or four out of four.”

He said that Long would not be replaced and that they would go with the four strikers who are currently at Fleetwood.

Long will not be available for Burnley in today’s FA Cup tie against Bristol City having made five appearances for Fleetwood in the competition. He played in the first round tie at Southport, missing the replay because of a suspension.

In the next round he was used as a substitute in the first game against Shrewsbury before playing the full game in the replay, and in the last round he featured against Bristol City, our opponents today, again a substitute in the first game before playing the whole of the replay.
