1516 burnley kevin long 00 630x420Kevin Long has joined Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick and Stephen Ward in the latest Republic of Ireland squad with Martin O’Neill having named an initial squad of 37 for their fixtures coming up in June.

They face games against Mexico, Uruguay and Austria with the third of them a World Cup qualifier.

We’ve had three players in squads previously, for Northern Ireland and then more recently with the Republic, but I am not aware of any previous occasion when four Burnley players have been called up in one squad although this one is likely to be reduced before the games.

The first game is the friendly against Mexico in the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday 1st June before returning home where they will play a friendly against Uruguay in another friendly on Saturday 4th June at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin which will then host the World Cup game against Austria on Sunday 11th June.

Our congratulations to Kevin Long on receiving his first international call up.
