Looking to close the gap at the bottom
Burnley’s under-23 team return to league action at Curzon Ashton tonight when we face Crewe in what can only be described as a bottom of the table clash.
We’re bottom of the league right now, three points behind Crewe who occupy the place above us which means a win for the Clarets would at least draw us level on points. However, it’s unlikely, even with a win, that we will move above Crewe given it would take a win by four goals or more.
With the last home league game against Hull having been abandoned because of fog, this will hopefully be our first ninety minutes of home league action since November when, on that occasion, we took a hammering against a very strong Bolton side.
There’s only been one league game since, a narrow defeat at Leeds, so our last points came with a 1-0 win against Barnsley in mid-November when Tunde Bayode scored the only goal of the game.
We have, however, in the last week and a half, played two Premier League Cup games against Category 1 clubs Newcastle and Swansea. The first of them ended in a heavy defeat but last Monday’s 2-0 win at Swansea will have given everyone a lift with it taking us ever closer to a place in the knockout stage of the cup.
As for Crewe, we will be looking to avenge the defeat we suffered at Gresty Road back in October. We were particularly disappointing that afternoon and fell to a 2-0 defeat.
Kick off tonight at the Tameside Stadium is 7 p.m.Share this page :
