In what was, overall, a good performance as we earned our first away point of the season at Leicester, it was always a case of three players vying for the top three positions in both the man of the match and the player ratings.

Matěj Vydra voted man of the match

Two of those players were making their first Premier League starts of the season, one of them his first ever start, and it was Matěj Vydra, on his first start this season, who won the man of the match with 33% of the vote. Matt Lowton, who has started all of the last forty of our Premier League games, was second with a 30% share and just behind him in third place with 29% was Maxwel Cornet on his first ever Premier League start. Such was the impact of those three that the two central defenders, Ben Mee & James Tarkowski, shared fourth place with just 2% of the vote each.

It was similarly close between the top three in the player ratings with Lowton this time the winner with a rating of 8.03 out of 10. Cornet and Vydra couldn’t be separated; both scored 7.90 to jointly take second place with Tarkowski claiming fourth place with a rating of 7.56 out of 10.

This result has given both Lowton and Vydra eight points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Cornet has won a further five points with Tarkowski claiming two points and Mee one point.

It was the final game in September and so we have the player of the month too and what an impact Cornet has had. One substitute appearance and a first half in the league alongside a game in the League Cup in which he has won 19 points to win the September player of the month, some seven points ahead of Tarkowski.

Tarkowski has reduced Dwight McNeil’s lead at the top of the player of the year table to five points with Cornet and Taylor a further seven points behind.

The next vote will be for this Saturday’s home game against Norwich and will be available approximately an hour after the final whistle.
