Madley to referee Villa clash
Andy Madley will referee our game at Aston Villa tomorrow. It will be his tenth Burnley game but only his fourth in the Premier League.
His first Burnley game was a League Cup tie against Plymouth in 2012, one we went on to win on penalties, with his first league game coming a year and three days later at Derby when he somehow saw Jason Shackell handle the ball when no one else did, a poor decision that thankfully didn’t cost us.
He’s refereed eleven games this season in domestic football of which eight have been in the Premier League. There have been twenty yellow and two red cards in those twenty games. Eleven of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with nine to away team players.
The first player who saw his red card this season was former Claret Ben Gibson in their 7-0 hammering at Chelsea. Norwich were involved when the red card came out again but this time it was Newcastle’s Ciaran Clark in the 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park.
Matthew Donohue is fourth official tomorrow who joined the Football League list ahead of the 2018/19 season and now operates as a Select Group 2 official. He’s still to referee a Burnley game but that’s not the case with Jon Moss, our VAR official tomorrow who refereed our home win against Brentford at the end of October.
