1718 burnley aidan stone 00 500x500Last week we reported that James Clarke, a defender released by the Clarets at the end of last season, had made a debut for Mansfield as a late substitute against Leyton Orient while his former Burnley under-23 team mate Aidan Stone continued as sub goalkeeper for the Stags.

Clarke got his full debut last Saturday, earning huge praise for his performance and last night got another full ninety minutes in against Everton under-21s in the League Trophy, a game that saw Stone step up for his full debut.

It all ended 1-1, with Mansfield losing the penalty shoot out, but assistant boss Lee Glover was full of praise for the two young players who have stepped up during a period when the League Two club have injury problems.

Stone had joined us from Brocton and was part of Steve Stone’s under-23 squad last season when he, along with Clarke, was released.

Up the Clarets are delighted at the progress they are both making and, as we did in Clarke’s case last week, would like to send our congratulations to Aidan on making his Mansfield debut.
