Tomorrow at Manchester City we will have, for the second time this season, Lee Mason refereeing an away game, him having previously refereed the game at Leicester.

Twice in a matter of a few weeks is somewhat different as far as this referee is concerned. He didn’t referee a single Burnley game in the 2018/19 season and last season it was just the trip to Aston Villa.

That game at Leicester was his first game of the season, tomorrow will be his eighth. In the seven games to date, of which just three have been in the Premier League, there have been twenty yellow cards of which nine have gone to home team players and eleven to away team players.

Six of those came in his most recent game, just last Saturday when he dropped into the Championship again for the Wycombe v Brentford game. There were six yellow cards in this game, four going to Wycombe players and two to Brentford players.

Mason will have Anthony Taylor on the touchline tomorrow as fourth official; Taylor last refereed us at West Brom. Robert Jones is on VAR duty and his last Burnley game was our FA Cup win last season against Peterborough.
