There will be a former Claret lining up for Hamilton Academical in Scottish League One next season after they captured young striker Joe McGlynn who was released by the Clarets last month.

Last season, indeed for the last four seasons, they have had Brian Easton after he returned to his first club, but the captain departed at the end of last season from the club where he also started his career before the Burnley move.

The Claret and Blue flavour will still be there with striker McGlynn who left Burnley at the end of last season having come through the academy and played at both under-18 and under-21 level for us. During his time at Burnley, he also enjoyed loans at various clubs including Oldham, Hyde and Kidderminster.

Although from Warrington, he qualifies for Scotland and has played in their under-18 team, making a scoring debut in a 2-0 win against Cameroon in September 2019, just three days before his 17th birthday.

Because of his loans, he didn’t feature too often last season for Burnley but his last goal in our colours came in November when he scored the second in a 3-1 Premier League Cup win against Stoke.

Yesterday, Accies reported: “We are delighted to announce the signing of our latest addition to our new look front line – welcome to Accies Joe McGlynn. Joe will be joining us from Burnley, subject to international clearance being completed.”

McGlynn said: “Delighted to be part of Accies plans for this season. I’ve been getting stuck into training and getting to know the lads and coaches; I’m really enjoying it. I’m looking forward to the start of the campaign and seeing the fans getting right behind us.”

We wish Joe the very best at Accies.
