It was something of a shock when we learned that club captain Ben Mee would be leaving us. He’d been at Burnley for eleven years, made over 350 league appearances for us and had been club captain for three years following Tom Heaton’s move to Aston Villa.

While his central defensive partner James Tarkowski was being linked with clubs and we eventually saw him sign for Everton, news on Mee was quiet with no indication of whether he was close to signing for anyone.

That was until this week when news surfaced that there had been interest from a number of clubs and him being in talks with Brentford.

Today he’s signed a deal with Brentford which will see him remain in the Premier League.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank said: I am very happy that we have signed Ben. He will add a lot of quality and experience to the squad. He had six good years for Burnley in the Premier League. I really love his defensive mindset; he knows how to defend the box, he knows how to block a shot and he knows how to win duels.

“He will bring leadership and communication to the team, which is very attractive. He has a very good left foot and will be very good for us on set-pieces in both boxes. I am looking forward to adding him to the squad.”

I’m sure we all wish Ben the very best at his new club.
