The problem is not getting a fair price and Newcastle again taking advantage of it , so they can spend bigger money on other players. Being fair to a player must include getting a fair price.

I suppose the fee has been undermined by the so called ‘ gentleman’s agreement’ made last season with Trafford when he wanted to go to Newcastle then but we made him / persuaded him to stay one more season.

I would say there is some loyalty in the game , but it’s usually between a manager and a player. Which is created when the manager is honest and is trusted and players know where they stand. The photo above shows both players in exactly the same position equidistant from the ball and classic 50/50, when Barnes arrives it’s even his body that blocks the ball not his foot. Both players were as brave as each other and certainly Barnes wasn’t going to back out. A wonderful moment to treasure.
