Surely the 1992 home game against Wrexham was completely insignificant and it’s the game before at York that should be included.

Re: Football Heritage - the Orient Game
The guest on the pod made the point that the Orient game wasn’t the “rebirth” of the club because we were stuck in the old Div 4 for another 4 years. However, I recall (as a child back then) that the feeling about the club seemed to change. The attendances the following season as good as doubled an...

I think he’s become a bit of a liability. For all the good he does recently there’s been more incidents of his ‘passion’ causing issues. He didn’t handle Sheffield United’s late down turn well last season and I’m sure his behaviour didn’t help the team. Passion is great, but it needs to be well dire...

Well, what a load of ballcocks! I know the person putting forward the theory of the football myth around the Orient match is a season ticket holder, but I suggest he probably wasn’t at that time in the clubs history. To suggest that Orient wasn’t a turning point is the clubs history is just wrong. Y...

It’s embarrassing tbh. Only Richards partially predicted us to stay up pre season and all other pundits had us going down. They don’t want the narrative to be wrong. If they can’t see that we have basically been in pretty much every game this season then they are not doing their job tbh. As for com...

Probably the better logic is that handball in the penalty area is an offence, encroaching into the penalty area isn’t, so it really doesn’t matter where the Liverpool player was.

When I started following Burnley in 1959, a good year for that to happen, I could run up the Longside steps backwards. I didn't of course cos I was with my dad, and he couldn't. The distance from the corner of the Longside stand to the traffic lights on Brunshaw/Belvedere will be well over half a mile, which isn't something that can be done in 5 minutes. (It's a quarter of a mile to walk round the touchline of a football pitch, so add in the stands and car parks and cricke...

I watch a lot of ‘The Big Match Revisited’ that’s on one of the ITV channels on Saturday morning. It’s currently showing the 75/76 season which is at the very edge of my footballing memory. The players are probably less skilful, certainly less fit and the pitches are often a mess, but it all seems s...

Re: Penalty - indirect freekick for encroachment
What do the rules say about where a player can’t stand from a PK? Presumably they at least need to be behind the ball? Appreciate there’s no major advantage if you can’t touch the ball from a saved PK, but could a player go and stand next to the penalty spot without the ref blowing? The laws say pl...

Re: Penalty - indirect freekick for encroachment
The freeze frame is misleading anyway. If you watch the footage the Liverpool player jumps in the air when he gets to the line to try and avoid encroaching, the freeze frame shows him in mid air and it’s impossible to tell whether he’s over the line or not. But the guidance is clear on the encroachm...

The teams finishing at the top of the Championship are almost certainly ill-equipped for the Prem from a squad perspective and worse. This is a simple argument to make, but the gap is widening all the time between the PL and EFL. Parachute teams have been caught in the middle. Most clubs have realised what to do on promotion, and you see relegated clubs now bring in huge sums for transfers as they flog off half decent players for...

There's a perfectly decent argument though that the National League system doesn't end up with everyone starting equal after the 46 game season. The team that finishes 2nd (i.e. in the top play off spot in the national league) has a significantly easier route to the final than those finishing at th...

It may be too early in the day, but I’m struggling to see how banning half scarfs stops Spurs fans in the home ends? I have a better idea - why not allow each team to play each other twice in a season, once at home and once away from home, and give points for the results, lets say 3 for a win and 1 each for a draw. Tot up the points into a format, lets call it a league table, whereby we can see which teams are be...

The play-offs are fine as they are and they’ve made the leagues more interesting for longer into the season. But increasing the play-offs to take in 8th is madness and probably wouldn’t end well for any 8th placed team that went up.

Re. The penalty. For me common sense should come into play and , if anything, the attacking players clear simulation (ie falling forward despite being ‘pulled back’) should count against him. It doesn’t. He falls forward because Anthony let go. I’m afraid the physics work in this particular instance.

Assuming the offside graphic to be accurate, the line is drawn to Foster's shoulder, being the most advanced part of his body that he can legally use, and it is further forward than any part of the defender's body that can be legally used. Hence offside, correct decision, however close. ‘Assuming t...
