TooOld? Yes you persuaded me and Chappers to play cricket for the Poultry Club back in the day. My claim to fame? - 4 successive ducks in one unmemorable season. 🤪 I’ve still got the Love Sculpture vinyl single you exchanged me for the Curved Air Vivaldi. Very sad news to hear of ‘Molly’s’ passing. ...

I shall also raise a glass to him tonight Pete. Not seen him for ages. Had no idea he’d gone into teaching. Spent many a lazy day chewing the cud with him and Killy. RIP Molly. I knew him well in our teens when he lived in Carleton St and Ethersall Rd in Nelson. We enjoyed many beers, listened to some great music, and followed the mighty Clarets. Our favourite players - Ralph Coates, Brian O Neill and Dave Thomas. Some great memories!

A former Nelson Grammar School Science teacher, Phil Smith, worked over there. Kept in touch with Lew. We’d already been out there on “tour” when I was in the lower sixth. Lew Birchall began his teaching career at Burnley Grammar School and moved to Nelson Grammar School (Walton High) in January 1967. I was in my first year as a pupil then, but eventually became a close friend and colleague of his when I started teaching at the school in 1976. I can honestly say he wa...

Started watching Nelson in the 60s. Neil Hawke was the pro back then. Couldn’t believe how far Mike Chappell, father of Glen, could smack the bowl out of the ground. Ended up in Vjctoria Park nearly every home match. Moved away for a time when Larry Gomes became involved. Not been back to watch them...
