Re: Last Tram to Turf Moor

There's an article by a Dr. Michael Harrison, 'A Brief History of Transport' which says the line past the Turf was laid in 1926 (presumably the subject of the photo). The article goes on to say that it was short lived as the last tram to Towneley and Brunshaw was October 1934. Last tram in Burnley a...

After my recent performances I need all the help I can get.
If it was there when Wile E did it. how the hell did he come up with E 11? - twice!
Is it a double bluff? - if it is , you've gone too far this time Ralph. Altering the shadows was bad enough.

You're quite right gotten is logical except there's nothing logical about the English language. Common usage in this country for the past participle of get is got and has been for a good 200 years.

I'd forgotten 'agate' which I think is used as 'what's he agate?' - what's he doing? Another East lancashire or at least Nelsonian oddity is the use of the word pants - meaning trousers, a word I never used. It was always short pants or long pants. Our American cousins commonly use the word pants me...

From a 1960 memory only, which is dangerous, I thought the Central League trophy was a 'cup' rather than a shield.

Moon tourism

Apparently a firm called Space X say they are going to send two paying tourists up to the moon next year.
This will obviously be extremely hazardous and with a fair chance of the craft not making it back.
Given this, I would like to propose Ant and Dec as the first two passengers.

1958 Bolton v Man Utd. Practically all neutrals wanted United to win because of Munich but perversely I wanted Bolton. Lofthouse scored both goals, the second by bundling the ball, with Harry Gregg attached to it, into the back of the net. Not a cat in hell's chance of it being allowed today.

Based on that footage, how do you think the present day clarets would manage against that old team? I suppose it's difficult, if not impossible, comparing different eras.
