Re: Sunderland Fans

Sunderland have strengthened and Tbf there midfield looks relatively decent. But there forwards and defence look pretty rank at this level. If we were slightly better in the final third we really could have put them to the sword and won 3 or 4 nil. Seelt in particular was just all over the place wh...

Positives - good off the ball shape, retaining the ball fairly well, Foster shown some decent movement and finish for the harshly disallowed goal, Lesley grown into it

Negatives - Larsen been fairly woeful on the ball, general lack of final third spark, Cullen not been as effective today

Re: THE SUPER CLARETS vs The Black Cats ~ Match Thread

People get a bit caught up with formations, and there seems to be a misconception ‘5 at the back’ is defensive. Last week we delivered one of the most attacking performances I’ve seen at a big club with ‘5 at the back’. Palace just won the FA Cup with ‘5 at the back’ every week. Very nice attacking ...

Tough game. Sunderland have spent a lot and spent really well. Glad we’ve matched their midfield with legs and physicality. That 11 is what i was hoping for except Tuanzebe for Ekdal, hopefully the latter has a good game.

On the face of it, not one I can fully get behind. I’d hoped he’d be competing with Anthony for a starting spot. But it’s understandable that Anthony is the first pick there. With Hannibal/Brownhill last season you were very clear stating repeatedly we don't play a 10, we play two 8s. An 8 is not a 10 or an inside forward any more than a right back making a run down the wing is a winger. Frank has a different level of player available to him than we do, with a very sign...

Anthony Edwards Tchauona Bruun Larsen Are 4 great wide options if we play 4-3-3 but if we are playing the 5-2-3 or 5-2-2-1 whatever you want then they aren’t the right players for the two options behind the number 9. I would say Flemming and Broja are most suited to those positions. Anthony has loo...

Mattster the system is fairly fluid, off the ball it’s a flat midfield 4 with the two ‘10s’ in a typical wide position, on the ball one plays a bit narrower and one might stay a bit wider. I think the profile of winger / inside forward / 10 is fairly fine. Tchaouna has played all across the front an...

Am I right in thinking he’s played predominantly in a back 5 for Coventry? Potentially not a bad signing if that’s the case. Cov play a back 4. Thomas has certainly developed. While it’s the right profile I want at cb (aerially dominant), it’s still a step up. I’d say Thomas is on par with someone ...

Not a penalty for me. He didn't move his arm towards the ball. He moved his body to block the ball..the arm is part of the body and, so long as within a natural position (it was literally glued to his side) then it should not be a punishable offence.

Brun Larsen a strange signing too, 7£m is massively overpriced for a winger who couldn’t get a start in the Bundesliga but we had about 9 wide players at the club already. I’ll be surprised if we sign another striker. Foster just delivered an 8/10 performance against one of the leagues best cb pairings, we just signed Broja for 10-15m and Flemming is back to fitness.
