The black king has to move out of check before H1- E4 can put the white king in check. It does not and is therefore the check mate for the white remains.

white rook to e3,
black king to d6,
white queen to e6

check mate for white in 2 moves (I think!)

Does anyone know when the Blackpool legend last played at the Turf?
