Re: **** VAR
Simplest way to say is if any part of the attacking player is in line with the defending player, then he’s onside So if the attackers back foot is in line with the defending front foot then onside But this just swaps one problem for another. You then sometimes have to mark the back of one player. A...

Re: **** VAR
daylight is an absolute. you can either see it or you can't. but i'll settle for clear daylight. Offside is an absolute too It's just not that easy to measure objectively So how do you definitively say there is daylight or not? You'd need the camera angle to be at exactly the right place at the rig...

that won't simplify it. a millimeter is still a millimeter even on a football boot. daylight is the answer because it's either there or it isn't. imagine var taking 8 seconds rather than 8 minutes. Daylight doesn't solve it either What if you're not sure if it's 0.00000001mm of daylight or less And...

About one every 6 games
But most in a league campaign is 8
So suggests he's not that prolific at picking up yellow cards

Re: Last night's result good or bad for us?
All depends on how the game goes. They have created chances against Arsenal and Fulham. If they take one, pressure is off, and we will find it very difficult to get back into it. But if they aren't ahead at half time then I can see it turning very toxic, similar to that win away at WHU a few years ago

Re: THE SUPER CLARETS vs Derby County - Match Thread
Just occurred to me that 90 minutes tonight feels impossible for Sonne to be in a back 5 on Saturday, given how Scott is managing the minutes. So that could be a 4. He didn't play much v Sunderland so I don't think playing 90 minutes tonight is an issue. But I agree I think he'll be on the bench on...

Re: Vote for your man of the match against Derby
I get it with the player ratings, but why is the MotM vote limited to time played? Say someone had come on with 10 minutes left, we are 2-0 down, and then he scores one and sets up another. Then scores a winning pen in the shootout. His contribution would have been undoubtedly worthy of MotM, but he...

I absolutely agree with all of that Rowls (apart from the small bit about blowing as soon as its a foul - I'd happily give the refs a few seconds, 3 or 4 fine, to think about the big decisions where a goal is possibly imminent)

Would you bring Edwards on when you’re 1-0 up with 10 mins to go ? That’s the question you need to ask . Instinctively it sounds like a bad idea. But it does give the opposition a completely different problem to deal with. One issue with defending a lead late on is that you invite pressure. And lat...

I think it will be 5 at the back still with JBL as RBW. Hope not but I think that’s the way he will go He played there against Lazio. Also Josh Laurent ended up as a RCB against Lazio. Precisely this. From what VAR official said ~ (Anthony) wasn't going to get to it / not in posession of the football, they're basically inferring that it's ok to run and push players over no matter where on the pitch. It's nothing to do with whether he has the ball or not. Not for the first time, V...

I think the Tarkowski one is really interesting and I'm not sure I know what is right and wrong yet It looks like he moves his arm towards the ball, but then moves his body towards it and pulls his arm behind his body. Re: End the season now for me.
Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul.Maybe we should instruct our defenders to barge people in the back off the ball because apparently it’s not a foul if they’re nowhere near the ball. Exactly. If you're asking for the Anthony foul to not be a penalty, then this is precisely what you are asking ...

Playing 3 at the back only works if you have two genuine wing backs, not wingers who can defend a bit or fullbacks that like the odd forage forward, proper all action, big engined dynamos, otherwise it's pointless. Trippier for example was the best wingback in the World when England got to the semi...

If they want to get rid of timewasting then good for them, but given Spurs were awarded a corner and their player spent longer than 8 seconds stood over it before taking it I'm not too sure what this rule actually achieves You couldn't allow for more added time if the GK held on to the ball for too...

Likewise a check when it's a second yellow wouldn't be unfair, but not for every yellow. What happens if a 2nd yellow is correct, but the 1st yellow was incorrect?
