For all the talk of limited budgets Burnley were spending well beyond their means when Cotterill left. Wages were increasing significantly and were higher than turnover. He finished 9th with them and had them in 4th when he left? How is that ‘on paper’? I’d suggest their success after he left was thanks to his work over time to get the club to that level, which also helped attract a top coach like De Zerbi. I feel I was pretty accurate here: Good that we haven't lost any first teamers (possibly Rodriguez excluded) and moved on a few that we didn't need. Bad that we've not added much. Of course, that's not necessairly an advantage. Brighton already use it for that, making it all but impossible to transfer a ticket at the last minute. He was one of those who looked good on paper at Brighton, his teams had a good xG record but that was used to suggest that the team were going to come good under him rather than question why he was underperforming the stats. The improvement after he left suggested it may well have been the latter.

I have received a speeding ticket for speeding on the M5 around Droitwich. Mobile speed camera. The reason I write, is that my speed was captured as 79mph. There probably is a little leeway because the speed dial in your car, generally speaking, isn't 100% accurate. My mechanic friend reckons GPS (SatNav) is more accurate. They aren't, but by design they can overestimate the speed, and usually do, but can't underestimate it. Modern cars, particularly ...
