Re: **** VAR
It's the incompetent people using it, as opposed to the actual tool itself. Maybe they need to pause it for a season and wait until AI can have more control. Agreed but referees and assistants will always know subconsciously that VAR is there in the background and will temper their decisions as a c...

The whole VAR thing needs to be reassessed. If linesmen and referees are now changing their decision making because of VAR then the tail is wagging the dog.

If you're looking at 2,000 penalties taken by men wearing red, then these variables will average out. We'll have to agree to differ on the validity of data from penalties taken under match conditions v. penalties taken under sterile experimental conditions. Have you found the link to the trial? You eliminate the variables best by using vast amounts of data. At a rough estimate, about 600-800 penalties have been missed in English football over the past 10 years. They're all on TV. It would be trivial (but time consuming) for an experimenter to watch every penalty and work out the figures. ...

Why would you need an experiment for that? Vast amounts of real world data are available. Do the real world data give players in red a better success rate than any other colour? This will be a massive increase of work for Ofcom, even if they only deal with issues brought to them and don’t actively go looking for problems.
The regulators don’t seem to be particularly effective as it is. Look at Ofwat today for example.
