Re: Nottingham
Many good points, CoolClaret. As I've alluded to, I don't have strong opinions on the death penalty, except the idea that it is uncivilised or somehow more humane than perpetual imprisonment. There are pros and cons on both sides of the debate. Prison can be humane. Norwegian prisons are very human...

Re: Nottingham
The killer apparently had weaponry on both ends of the severity spectrum.

Re: Nottingham
Agreed. So which is the more 'humane'? To swiftly dispatch somebody who has no place in society and no chance of rehabilitation or keep them locked up like a caged animal and deny them liberty, at great cost to the taxpayer, for the rest of their days. There's a debate to be had with merit on both ...

Maybe a lot more would happen without it given the amount of fire arms held
You can fact check me on this but in the US I believe death penalty states have higher murder rates than non-death penalty states.

I tried to glean some information from twitter but the results from searching "Nottingham" are filled with people being giddy about the race of the alleged killer.

Re: City v Inter. The Purist Treble.
Get Walker and Mahrez on. Their left back is the weak link. Ake looks shaky and Silva could have done better, so Ake & Silva off, Akanji to left defence, Walker and Mahrez to hit them where they will hurt. Inter very clever. they might come on at about 60 mins. City have been in control so far. Int...

Re: City v Inter. The Purist Treble.
If City win tonight they will have achieved a Treble which no other English club has. It will be a purist Treble as City qualified and entered this Champions league as Premier League Champions in 2021/2022 season. When United claimed to have achieved The Treble 1999, they entered their Champions Le...

ideologues and fantasists. If we did 'just stop oil' we'd be ploughing the fields with horses practically overnight. I suspected there was more to their campaign than just it's title I decided to take a look on their website to see if what they wanted was as you described, cold turkey end to oil us...

I think when they protested a Shell AGM - delaying it for hours - and got next to zero publicity for their cause that was when i realised that disrupting traffic and sports events really is a much more effective means of protest. Good luck to them.

Re: Ultra Processed Food
Absolutely not correct, it often costs more and therefore rests a major issue. It also takes a lot more time, which poor people working all the hours god sends don't have. So it's mostly a luxury of those who can both afford the added expense, and the added time. The OP has accidentally hit upon on...

Re: O/T Universal Basic Income
Haven't done much reading into it but I assume employers would look to cut pay to some extent? Would we see a more level pay across all jobs since who would take any really boring, or unpleasant low skill/pay job? Would also be interested in what would happen to pensions? Would these be raided in p...

Re: O/T Universal Basic Income
We're a rich enough country that people shouldn't have to work purely for survival. The fact that we allow that kind of leverage to exist is one of the reasons wages are low while productivity has skyrocketed, and is surely a huge factor contributing to the various mental health crises in the develo...
