Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
To build on my above post - Clarke has already spoken publicly about his regret at jumping to the PL too soon when Spurs signed him for £10m four years ago and basically forgot about him. He's spoken about how he wished he had more football under his belt. He might think he has enough now, but its s...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'll just re-iterate that Clarke has THREE years left on his deal, has publicly said (and his agent) that he doesn't want to leave this summer, and we are building a young squad with a CHANCE of promotion, and have absolutely no financial issues whatsoever. (debt free, low wage structure, no high ea...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
This you, Geronimosally? PS - how intellectually dishonest are some people with this comment - nobody once argued that ' you need 4 yrs in the PL being the best english player in your position to be worth over £18m' sigh. No I don't post on there, or at least I haven't for 20 years - its impossible...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Firstly, thanks for posting geronimosally. It’s nice to hear from opposition fans on here. My son raved about Clarke last season, so I watched him closely when you guys came to the turf and I can’t say I was overly impressed. Although he may just have had an off game as we had 70% possession that d...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
🤔 Newcastle bought him for £10m. That's a bit of an outlier. You can't price every other player based on the sale of a 30 year old keeper, sold at a time just after relegation when I presume your club had to sort its wage structure out a bit, or at least fund a rebuild. For every "Nick Pope only co...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Keane Lewis Potter went somewhere for like £20m didn't he? Clarke has done way more than that lad had. I don't think us Sunderland fans expecting £18-20m for Clarke is unreasonable tbh. And I think the club that eventually signs him will learn quite quickly why we were so desperate to keep him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Judging from this 70-odd (!) page thread on the Sunderland messageboard their fans would be furious if we got him for anything like £10m. Most of them seem to be saying they shouldn’t let him leave for less than £20-25m https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/bid-rejected-for-clarke.1608553 Usual cav...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Thanks for that - sounds promising, if we were to sign him. What are your expectations for next season? Plenty of big clubs, alongside yourselves in the Championship, I can see it being a difficult one to do well in for a good few clubs. Frustrating for you to miss out but still a good first season...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
What is his best position, is it left wing and how is his end product? His numbers suggest pretty bloody good!! Left wing and very good. He didn't do much crossing last season (I think we crossed the least out of any side in the league) because we didnt have a striker. So I can't say how good he is...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We won’t be paying much more than £10m I wouldn’t think. Already got Zaroury in that position so anything more than that for someone who might not start every game is a big chunk of our budget. I do rate him highly though and hope we sign him (sorry). I obviously might be wrong but I can't see him ...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
One last thing - he also played wing back quite a bit last year. His defensive responsibility and work rate was brilliant. Its the kind of thing I think people expect he just wouldn't do as he seems a bit "showy". Basically please don't take him. And if you do - it will be for a lot more than Nixon ...

Put it this way - Amad got all the headlines but Jack Clarke was our best player last year.

We have a chance at least like. most sensible ones dont expect it (there's probably 14 clubs with a chance)randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 4:47 pmSunderland fans think theyre going up next season ? Really ?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Sunderland fan in peace. Jack Clarke really is absolutely brilliant. If you sign him for anywhere near the numbers quoted, its a steal. He drifts past players with ease, can carry the ball long distances to get up the pitch quickly and has a good finish / eye for goal on him. Personally I wouldn't e...
