Just had a message from a German friend to say that we have agreed terms with Karlsruhe for Max Weiss, a 21 year old goalkeeper who has a medical booked for Monday. Fee thought to be €5 million and a contract that goes to 2029.

Did you live in the Pigeon Lane area in Herne Bay HB Claret? if so ( and my memory is not so good these days) I may have popped into see you in the early 70's to talk about the London Clarets. I lived in Margate Road, Broomfield a couple of doors down from the Plough but moved to Downs Park in 2008.

Born in Burnley 1962, lived in Colne until 1968 when my dad lost his job (weaver). He was offered a weaving job in Kent so we moved to Whitstable but I still consider myself a proud Lancastrian and a Claret.

At the ripe old age of 45 back in 2007 I gave up my accountancy job which I’d been in since leaving school to become a self employed foreign student organiser. Best move I ever made as it was a totally different life style - full on 24/7 for maybe 8 months of the year and then 4 months of free time....

Just bought A Calamity of Souls by David Baldacci - set in 1968 Virginia - legal thriller centred on a Black man charged with killing a wealthy White couple. Sounds a bit similar to Grisham’s A Time To Kill which was excellent.
