Re: Alan Shearer sues advisers for £9 million damages

I'm on Shearer's side here. He must have been flogged a UCIS investment possibility on the basis that it offered a 'smooth return with limited risk' and then poof all the monies gone. If anyone is greedy in this venture it's the adviser who will have received high commissions on the investment. My v...

Re: Truth behind public sector pensions.

Dsr the £148k is just his own contributions. If that had been an employer's dc scheme then they'd have contributed at least the same again, if not more. So instead you're looking at a pot of 300k upwards. No one in their right mind buys an annuity these days, so that DC pot holder can take an incom...

Re: Champagne socialist Joey named in tax avoidance scheme.

The difficulty in closing these loopholes is that they take advantage of genuine tax planning. Take Jimmy Carr who used director loans to circumvent paying 'appropriate' tax and film partnerships who effectively use losses in one partnerships to offset income from other sources. I had the opportunit...

Surely being killed is what they want. Hence the fake suicide vests.

Capturing them alive does have benefits.

A model with these variations would certainly use voter turnout in part. I read 80% but without empirical evidence to support will leave as hearsay :)

Re: YouGov election estimates

Is this model based on an 18-24 year old turnout of 80% +?

(2015 turnout for this age was ~44%)

Re: OT - any recommendations for golf gps watch?

Although not golf specific the Garmin vivoactive HR does all what you want and has a decent battery life. You can download three courses on to the watch at any one time and the database has all I've searched for both home and abroad. I also use mine for running and cycling if that's your bag. More h...

Re: This "Conservatives borrow less" idea.

By the way, Japan is at almost 130% of GDP but they're essentially money printing (quantitative easing) to service it if I'm not mistaken (others on here will no doubt be more informed that I) and the markets are calm about it because they hold a lot of assets and aren't holding much foreign debt a...

Re: This "Conservatives borrow less" idea.

It's rather strange that Tory supporters would make a big deal about Brown selling off the gold, when the Tories have sold off a great deal more. Royal Mail, anyone? Sold off well below its value. Politics aside notifying the market you are selling large amounts of an asset on a given date is as na...

Re: Sportsmania

I'd not come across sportsmania before coming on here. I ended up using Sportsaccess and very rarely have problems with multiple links and HD links for all Prem games. Maybe a bit dearer than SM and you've got to pay in bitcoins but perhaps an alternate for those with persistent problems. Think they...

Re: Shares rocket to their highest since 2011!!!!

The single biggest factor for asset appreciation in the last decade is QE. The ECB for example has bought €4tn of sovereign and corporate debt and is still purchasing billions per month. This is the drug that both central banks and investment houses cannot wean themselves off. Even the mere talk of ...

Re: Shares rocket to their highest since 2011!!!!

Three reasons stocks have done well

1. Thin trading volumes.

2. Further stimulus - rate cut more QE predicted.

3. Hesitation on 'pressing' the article 50 button
