Ha ha, luckily I wasn't in any of the ones that went plummeting over the edge, I had a couple of surfboards on my car which I had to remove as I feared the wind would otherwise rip the roof off the car. I rammed them under the van.

Just driven my Grandson back to Leeds (at Uni there) as the trains have been cancelled....

Ilkley Tennis Club is underwater as you drive in on the A65 ... the river Wharfe has burst its banks completely.....
Had to turn back between Ilkley and Burley in Wharfedale as the road was under 3ft of water. Went over the top past Cow and Calf into Guiseley...

Came home via Bradford ... between Crosshills and Skipton is basically a Lake now from Connonley to Carlton ffs

Drove back from Carnforth earlier, M6 down to 1 Lane just before the 65 61 turn off. The A59 was closed too, absolute nightmare. Read on Twitter that they've now closed the road at the tickle trout and access north and south on m6. They are worried about the ribble breaching. At 3pm the river level was scary.

It's 1 in 6 areas Ribble wise they concerned about, 208 in total none severe, was 1 severe earlier for the river nidd around pately bridge but that's gone, river must have dropped.

I would like to know at what point in time did we start giving names to bad weather?

American nonsense.

I can answer that, its because people didn't take storms seriously before, they thought, incorrectly, "Oh, it doesn't have a name, its not going to be that bad." Giving a storm a name has been proven to save lives and raise awareness of approaching bad weather.

How many storms occur in the UK a year, say 2 to 3 in the seasonal winter usually, I personally don’t see how naming a storm could be instrumental in saving lives, equipped with the knowledge that the forthcoming odd storm is called Desmond or just a plain storm, it wouldn’t make a difference to how I prepared for the storm as long as I knew a storm was coming.

You may have driven to Guiseley through Menston. Either way, you should’ve said: I’d have put the kettle on! Pretty grim round here today. Lots of houses with flooded cellars, due to extreme run-off from Ilkley Moor.

You would think so Jakub, but then some people need "Contents may be hot" on a takeaway coffee, and "may contain Nuts" in a Peanut Chocolate bar.

Human's are so weird that since America started to switch between Male and Female Hurricane names, (previously just Female), that the female named hurricane have cause significantly more deaths. They only reason they can find for this is that (female names) are perceived as lower risk and therefore taken less seriously.

The name storm thing, is basically so Met office people can use Hashtags and reach "Da Yooth"

Drove down to Poole with one of my daughters on Saturday to visit my eldest daughter. It was a glorious day and a great journey. Stayed overnight and came home yesterday afternoon. What a f*ckin difference a day makes. Never actually seen such bad weather over such a vast area. About 260-odd miles of rain and wind, terrible visibility and using Google to avoid the umpteen accidents along the way. Think we drove through the 'eye of the storm' though because we actually had a few miles of really sunny (but still windy) weather just north of Brum. Quite an experience though.

What a difference a day makes? Yesterday morning it was like the wizard of oz winds. Then an hour or so later mild and blue skies. An hour later the whole town under water. Then calm again. Then today all trains cancelled.
