So the rule posted about castling not being allowed if the King / Rook has moved, isn't true? As if it is, you'd think they'd have mentioned whether they had moved prior. The king could have moved a space and moved back during the course of the game.

Frank - the only way white can guarantee a win in two moves is if castling is permitted, therefore we have to assume they haven't moved.

Correct, but it's not a guaranteed two turn victory as the black player wouldn't move the knight, but the rook.

Yes, but the black player can prevent it.
Either knight follows queen and then takes her after she takes the pawn, or the rook takes the pawn in d3 and then takes the queen.

If the black player doesn't do that then you're right, white wins in two, but it's not the answer to the question!

There's more than one way I think depending on what the black player does, but the first move is queen to B2.

From there it's either;
1) black rook moves - queen to h8
2) black pawn at f3 moves to e2 - queen to b7
3) black knight moves to d2 - king takes black knight
4) black knight moves to a3 - king castles with rook

Brilliant, I thought castling must be involved but I didnt see the combination that by moving the queen to B2 you locked the rook and forced the knight to move to a3

Most enjoyable thread on here for ages but cant believe Ive opened it up hours later to see two pages of people going round in circles and you having to explain things over and over

Why would white not just take knight at d2 with king for checkmate?
