Kitchen Base Unit Installations

Are there any kitchen fitters on here (or anyone with actual knowledge of kitchen installations).

We have had an issue come to light whereby we had squeaking noise when the washing machine was on a spin cycle. I got the remediation team for the builders (new build, been in nearly 2 years) and they identified that the metal bracket that was meant to fix the base unit adjacent to the washing machine to the wall was not fixed at all to the wall. The "fix" was to remove the bracket from the base unit all together, so now there's no squeak.

However, we decided to inspect all the base units, and none of them are fixed directly to the wall in any way. The only fixing point to the actual wall is the upstand across the top of the worktop.

If you have any experience of fitting kitchens - what are your thoughts on this? and do you think the manufacturers warranty would be affected? (I have contacted the kitchen manufacturer for comment).

New builds are guaranteed for 2 years. So don't delay any action with the house builder or it will become your problem not theirs.

thanks Heathclaret, thats a fine looking kitchen. Please can you verify whether the method of attachment to the wall is with a metal bracket towards the top (as per attached photo) or are there other methods to attach to the wall that are not easily visible.

already reported as an issue, I've queried with the kitchen manufacturer whether the kitchen's 5 year warranty would be affected by incorrect installation too.

I’m sure it will be adjusted by the electrician, it’s almost like three steps. Tiling also yet to be done.

Yes, a fixing on the left and right of the base unit to secure to the wall.

Not easily seen as the brackets are set below the worktop. Caps are then fitted in the Pre drilled hole to hide the opening.

I don’t have a website, I get enough work by recommendation, the two we’ve done recently, one of which is in the photos, are for a local building firm.

In my experience electricians have lopsided eyesight when it comes to making sockets and switches level.Why they don't carry a small spirit level is beyond me.
