Rochdale are another
And Plymouth (or Torquay) are another that class us as "rivals"

Yep, a much bigger club given that Leeds is mainly a one football club city, but I wouldn't say they are a better club. By the way, I'm in no way bitter about them. They're just an EPL rival, all be it one from Yorkshire.
Oddly enough I went to school in Leeds and live in Stockport!!! No way could I agree that Leeds are "better".....better at blowing their own trumpets and holding grievances for 50 years maybe (you still see them banging on about that supposedly offside goal scored by West Brom even now). As for County...I always liked them as a local team but their attitude in the 80s and 90s was difficult to take.

Wasn't it all whipped up by a local Stockport journalist? Can't recall his name?

The rivalry was stoked up by their local journalist (Steve Bellis?) who I think ended up on Stockport's board, or even chairman.
No Nay Never printed some of his articles, they really were shocking.
Reckon this might be the bloke your thinking of

I think CT describes them as “the unprofessional”
That was true back then and definitely true now

I seem to remember Jimmy Mullen getting a pie thrown at him at one game at Edgeley Park... sadly for Jimmy, I don't think it was laced with alcohol.

Now compare this to how our fans see Leeds fans thinking them as arrogant and above their station and you'll see the comparison between the sad obsession teams like Stockport and Halifax still have with us isnt that much different to the way loads of our fans seem obsessed and full of bitterness towards Leeds
The dislike of Leeds is much deeper than Burnley supporters thinking them 'arrogant and above their station.'
For me, their brand of thuggery both on and off the pitch, from the 70's to this day, makes them a thoroughly unpleasant club.

Yawn yawn yawn, there's always an excuse why all these other clubs are tinpot, bitter, thugs etc compared to the wonderful Burnley. At end of the day people are people whoever they support and at all clubs you get a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly

Not really, you'd need to be over 50 to even remember that Leeds team under Revie.

It was a really wild night, I was outside before the game & there was a lot of trouble with the police then, I think the numbers shocked them & the willingness of a large number of Burnley fans who were up for a battle. I’m sure it was on a good Friday? A few years ago I got talking to a guy on holiday who was at the game with a friend who was from Barnsley who wrote for a paper, he said that it was the worst violence against the police he had seen since the miners strike.I lived in Macclesfield & the number of incidents with Stockport fans over the years was funny, including one at Manchester airport. We also had a couple of run ins with Efe Sodji in the local nightclub, one memorable incident resulting in his bandana ending up in a rather full urinal & him putting it back on.

It was a Friday but not Good Friday. It is amongst the worst trouble I have seen inside a ground, certainly against the Police. York away Boxing Day 1984 was bad, Bolton home and away 1987/88 equally so but more fan v fan than Police. People who would not normally get involved, certainly against the Police found themselves in the thick of it due to the indiscriminate actions of GMP.

Don’t think it was Good Friday sure it was quite early on in the season. It was frightening as a young kid I remember Comstive going clean through at the end and thinking it he scores this is going to be crazy! Also the weird part of that away end was no crush barriers at the time.

I know lots of fans in the Midlands who feel a trip to Burnley is up there on their most unpleasant outings. As Burnley fans I think we have our claret specs on sometimes and don't see that Burnley can be a bit scary.

The most ludicrous thing about the GMP's behaviour that night was that we were tightly packed in the open end behind the goals and could hardly move, whereas there were just a few hundred Stockport fans on the "Longside". All the police had to do was to move the Stockport fans about 25 / 30 yards further down the longside, and ensure that no Burnley supporters "broke out" from behind the goals. Once they had quickly established a "no man's land" there would have been no trouble.
As luck would have it, we were stood towards the other side of the "Burnley end", so not in any real danger, but we watched the situation evolve with increasing incredulity at the police's ineptitude to assess and manage the situation.

My point was that many of our fans who have this OTT attitude towards Leeds couldn't possibly remember that Revie team.

It was Stockport in the 90’s when the two loons decided to run from the Stockport end climb the fence and jump into the away end! Predictably it didn’t end well for them.

It is all part of his amazing lifestyle he leads, as he is quick to point out when claiming he used to go to games but not as so much amazing things happening in his life that he can't be arsed with the club anymore. Sadly his main highlight in life seems to be acting like a knob on here.
Feel a bit sorry for him in all honesty
