My favourite comment was this-
"Burnley did nothing for 45 minutes.
Pope kept them in the game. "
We could just as easily reply-
Villa did nothing in the last 45 minutes.
Grealish had kept them in it till then"...
We didn't, and Pope did keep us in the game, shame for them that the game lasts for 90 minutes isn't it, and we got 3 and they only got 2

I liked it when the commentator said that this season whenever Aston Villa score first they go on to win the game. And whenever Burnley concede first they go on to lose the game.
And the co commentator then said "Well we may as well all go home now as Aston Villa are going to win"

To be fair he was joking, despite his Blackburn and Aston Villa links be was surprisingly balanced in his assessment of dvd game! Warnock is a better co commentator than most.

Wow. Some amazing comments on there. The way they seem to be talking is they should be challenging for top 4 but will have to just settle for mid table! Apparently we only won because of Pope. How dare our goalkeeper, er, try and stop the ball going in our net? What a set of bitter clowns.

It’s disappointing to see your team lose. They were light years ahead of us in the first half.
I don’t get where Villa fans get this superiority complex from though. It’s like they’ve just woken up from a coma and have no recollection of relegation and being a dreadful Premier League side.
Despite the negative result, there was lot positives to take from it, especially in the first half, which Aston Villa bossed.

He's not wrong though is he; if we'd gone in at half time 0-3 down it wouldn't have been an unreasonable scoreline, hell with luck on their side they could've had four or even five without Pope's intervention! The second half we were much better, but without Pope's one-man-show of the first half, it'd have been too little too late for us by then.
If the situation/play/result were reversed, I think we all might be a tad bitter at the moment.

It's probably worth remembering signing and coaching good goalkeepers isn't lucky. Opposing fans often see Pope - and previously Heaton - having a great game and believe it to be some great misfortune for them. Like he should be letting in the number of expected goals some pointless stats machine says he should.
If a striker - or, say Jack Grealish - has a great game, that's not 'lucky', it's 'class'. We should all admire that, and we mostly do. But a keeper playing well.. that's borderline cheating.

Weirdly it's like they're ignoring or forgetting last seasons golden gloves final standing.

There’s a reason why teams (City aside) don’t go into half time 3-0 up against us though. We were dominated in the first half by a classy looking Villa, but it’s not luck that we defy the XG conceded stats regularly. We have one of the best goalkeepers in the country and we get lots of bodies between the ball and the goal.
I saw a clip on MOTD where I counted 10 Burnley players in the 18 yard box within the width of the posts. Inevitably the shot was blocked. They had a a few really good chances but also quite a lot from difficult scoring positions which we rarely concede from.

The strange thing is that despite spending all that money, they rely heavily on a player that cost nothing. Without Grealish that would have hardly had a shot at goal, and if he was playing for us last night we would have won comfortably

To balance it out. Worth reading comments on BBC write up. Lot of mutual respect and neutrals who really enjoyed the match, particularly the second half

It often seems like teams miss chances against us, but I think there's a reason for that. We rarely allow a striker time to get his shot away effectively and the forwards are well aware of the pressure that is likely to come in the next instant after receiving the ball. So they tend to snatch at shots rather than placing them carefully. It's a knock on effect of the way our defenders are so effective at getting blocks in.

But that is Pope's job - to stop the ball going in the net. It wasn't unlucky. He's just very good at doing that. There are always "ifs" and "buts" in every game.
If the situation/play/result were reversed I'd be disappointed that my team couldn't take their chances. I wouldn't be a bitter.

I really don't get where this idea that we're a dirty buch of thugs comes from.
We're mid-table in the "fouls committed" table this season (just below Villa), 16th in the yellow cards table (Villa are 10th), we've just passed the totting-up deadline without having a player suspended and we haven't had a man sent-off for more than two years.
Amazing how when these memes take hold, people just go along blindly with the assumption rather than judging the evidence with their own eyes.

Another one that people blindly believe is that Mee is a big defender. He's one of the smallest centre halves in the league - 5 foot 11 inches. There are very few centre halves under 6 foot, I reckon.

.... and rather showed up the 6ft 5 Tyrone Mings at the corner when he scored, Mings got distracted away from Wood for our winner leaving the full back alone with our Christopher ...

Brilliant. And how many times have the mighty Villa beaten this "pub team" in the last four PL games...you'd expect a better return than one out of four for well over £200 million.

Well! if we're a pub team how come Villa have only taken 1 point out of 6 from us this season, they might want to ponder this fact.
Villa are experiencing a much better campaign than the last, but they are still only mid-table standard at best, and I'd worry for them if Grealish is injured, or even worse he decides to leave. They rely far too heavily on his contributions, and it wasn't a surprise that when he was side-lined last year they hit a rough patch of form.

There is the odd villa fan with their feet on the ground (admittedly not many).
This is a time to be humble and understand that we let ourselves down last night in various places on the pitch, and on the touchline. We've played 'worse' and won, or at least been under attack for long periods and not lost (Leicester... Chelski). I can 'understand' the prevalence of emotive language in the immediate post match fallout, but some of what I have read across 19 pages is nothing short of knicker wetting.
We weren't robbed. Being robbed is Palace away last season.
We weren't entitled to win anything. Short term memory for some people in context of where we've been over the last 5 seasons.
And it shouldn't ruin your mood for the week. Again, in context, we're having a good season.
Christ.
There's a time and place for hand-wringing and worry - this wasn't it. We've been undone by VAR controversy, and although the form book is looking like a dicey spell, we've been up against two of the Top 4 in very recent fixtures.
We go again... but it's going to be a tricky match on Saturday. We haven't found a way to play against Southampton. Yet.
The best thing in all of this, including our recent patchy form is that we are still creating chances. We can get better at finishing them, of course we can. We can get better at game management and use of personnel. Of course we can. The time to worry is when we stop creating.
For now, I shake my head and smirk a little at some of the reactions to this match.

Villa fans need to give their heads a wobble. They should actually be in the Championship AGAIN, after the home game v Sheffield Utd last season. They seem to think they are are a big 6 rival, laughable given their recent history. They are nothing more than a bang average mid table side, take Grealish out, they would be relegation fodder. After a good start, they’ve been shown up for what they are
